Monimia Hoak Barker
Monimia Hoak Barker of Stevensville died on January 9, 2011. She was 85.
Born in Waynesville, Ohio on March 31, 1925, she was the daughter of the late, Keller and Anna Furnas Hoak. She graduated from Waynesville High School in 1943, and went on to earn a B.S. Degree from Towson State University. She taught in the Anne Arundel County Public School System from 1960 until 1982. She was also a traditional rug hooker.
Mrs. Barker was a member of the Third Haven Society of Friends. She was also a member of the Pearl McGown Rug Hookers and the Nova Scotia Rug Hookers.
She is survived by her children, Charles N. Barker of Silver Spring, Bruce A. Barker of Lake Oswego, OR, Gary W. Barker, Sr. of Chapel Hill, NC, Seth E. Barker of Centreville, Rebecca L. Cridler of Charlestown, W.Va. and Robert F. Barker of Centreville; her brother, Benton K. Hoak of Waynesville, OH; her sister, Eula McDermott of Dayton, OH; an adopted daughter, Kathy Ashtrom, Annapolis; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edwin Barker, whom she married on June 15, 1946; her sister, Anna L. Henderson; her brother, Seth Hoak; and a grandson, Michael Barker.
