Betsy Forman Harrell writes, "I will be sending a copy of the newsletter of Friends House in Santa Rosa, CA. My interest in sending Third Haven this little publication is twofold. One is that I'd be so happy if any Third Haven members wanted to visit or move here! Santa Rosa is 1 hour north of San Francisco & is located in what's called the North Bay. Most residents are from the San Francisco Bay area; however, we have recent new residents from both Vermont, Florida & New York City. And we have a magnificent climate (except for bad drought this year). About 40% of the independent-living residents are Friends, & we wish we had more."
The increasing price of food and
gas has resulted in fewer donations to the Maryland Food Bank. The primary
food pantry in Easton for those in need is in the Neighborhood Service Center
and the need is increasing. The Maryland Food Bank is the principle source of
food for the Neighborhood Service Center. Thus the situation at present is
less food for more people. To help fill this gap, several faith communities
in Easton are regularly collecting non-perishables to give to the Neighborhood
Service Center. On a bench along the East side of the Common Room is a plastic
container marked "Third Haven Food Bank for the Neighborhood Service Center".
It is hoped that all members and attenders will bring at least one
non-perishable each time they attend a Meeting for Worship" Each Monday,
the contents of the container will be brought to the Neighborhood Service
Center.
The following is a note received
from Mariann Stackpole who works directly with the migrant workers. "Thank you
on behalf of our migrant workers for being so generous in
answering their needs." Once
again the requests for workboots continues. Each week more men arrive ill
equipped for the work they must do.
Special need mens--size 13
These other mens sizes--11,
10, 9 (2 pairs), 81/2, 8 (3 pairs)
Women's workboots--size 81/2
Women's cotton socks--several
packages
Women's pants and tops---very
large size --size 18-20 maybe
Men's long-seeve shirts--all
sizes--these are in great demand
Blankets---many of the people
are cold---we need at least 8 blankets
Dishes---mugs, plates, bowls
Books---history, biography
(This week we added 2 more readers
---One likes mysteries and the
other westerns, specifically, Louis L'Amour)"
Please bring donations to First
Day Meeting for Worship and place in
white Ford Ranger with kayak rack
parked in front of the Common Room
or contact Ralph Young for pickup.
We now have yard signs to publicly proclaim our desire for alternative solutions to world problems. The signs are 24" x 18", weatherproof, printed on both sides and come with sturdy holders that easily slip into the ground. A donation of $5 is requested for each sign, and these donations are forwarded to the FCNL Education Fund.
